Rocker/gun-rights fan Ted Nugent is backing Tom Tancredo for governor and has even authorized a fundraising letter in which donors are entered into a contest for a new AR-15. (See it below.) But will such support cost Tancredo as much as it gains? After all, Texas gubernatorial hopeful Gregory Abbott has taken heat for campaigning with Nugent after the latter called President Barack Obama a "sub-human mongrel" -- and that's only one of his controversial quotes. Check out our top ten Nuge eyebrow-raisers, including one originally shared with Westword. Number 10: "I think that Barack Hussein Obama should be put in jail. It is clear that Barack Hussein Obama is a communist. Mao Tse Tung lives and his name is Barack Hussein Obama. This country should be ashamed. I wanna throw up.... Obama, he's a piece of shit. I told him to suck on my machine gun." -- Reportedly said onstage in August 2007. Number 9: "What's a feminist anyways? A fat pig who doesn't get it often enough?" -- Featured in posts such as this one from Texas Theocracy Watch. Number 8: "I'm an extremely loving, passionate man, and people who investigate me honestly, without the baggage of political correctness, ascertain the conclusion that I'm a damned nice guy, and if you can find a screening process more powerful than that, I'll suck your dick. Or I'll fuck you, how's that sound?" -- Credited to CBS This Morning, May 2012. Number 7: "If it was up to me, if you uttered the word 'gun control,' we'd put you in jail." -- A line from a 2011 Reuters interview. Number 6: "Foreigners are assholes; foreigners are scum; I don't like 'em; I don't want 'em in this country; I don't want 'em selling me doughnuts; I don't want 'em pumping my gas; I don't want 'em downwind of my life -- OK? So anyhow, and I'm dead serious...." -- Excerpted in No Compromise, July 2000. Number 5: "I got to tell you, guys that have sex with each others' anals cavities -- how can we offend guys that have anal sex? Don't you think that might offend some of us who think that's despicable?" -- From an episode of Hannity and Colmes circa 2000. Number 4: "This, of course, will not apply to those 50 percent of Americans who pay no income taxes. They get fleeced and conned in other ways, such as the Democratic Party convincing them that evil, greedy Republicans are the reason they are poor, unemployed and underemployed. Sadly, many are obviously too clueless to see which political party is their modern-day slave master and which one wants to liberate them." -- From a Washington Post column in 2011. Number 3: "Apartheid isn't that cut-and-dry. All men are not created equal." -- Quoted in the Detroit Free Press in 1990. Number 2: ""You mean to say that when an imbecile walks into a church, office, day care center, or school, stumbling about, almost zombie-like, with gun-filled hands at his side, blabbering incoherently to his next victim, the reaction of grown men and women is to run, cry, whimper, and hide under a desk or pew? The sheeping of America is nearly complete." -- Shared with Alex Jones in 2013. Number 1: "You probably can't use the term `toxic cunt' in your magazine, but that's what she is. Her very existence insults the spirit of individualism in this country. This bitch is nothing but a two-bit whore for Fidel Castro." -- "Ted's World," Westword, July 27, 1994.
