Give a Dam

I never thought I would read a cover story about beavers (or that Westword would devote its cover to actual beavers, rather than the kinky-sex version), but I read every word of Alan Prendergast’s excellent story about Sherri Tippie.

You might say he made me give a dam!

What a delightful article with which you honored Sherri Tippie and the beaver cause in general! I was so pleased to read good news about beavers from such a unique and humane perspective. Sherri was a great inspiration for our own beaver advocacy four years ago, when our city threatened to kill the beavers in a low-lying stream. Now we have a famous beaver colony and a yearly beaver festival, and Sherri is one of my all-time (s)heroes! Thank you for the wonderful read.

Ms. Tippie is doing a very, very good thing for beavers and for our environment. Articles like this are why I always read Westword and why I still have some hope in journalism.

Get a ‘Cue

We have been getting our barbecue at Country Time for years, and it is the best. We have tried all the chains, and they suck compared to this great, family-owned operation.

The Missing Kink

Wow. I am sad to see all of the hate floating around here. I don’t care who has done what to whom. It all just sets a bad example to all of the others who may have been looking to explore but are being chased off by so much hate. Way to go!

For those who think it’s creepy and wrong, to each their own. Let us remember that we are all human beings, no matter what our differences. Treat others with respect and respect shall be given in return.

I thought that Jenn Wohletz’s recent field guide to sex was an eye-opener, but it was nothing compared to all the comments about the story that are posted online. To the people who say it’s the worst story Westword has ever run, I say: So why did you read it?

I, for one, have always appreciated Westword‘s willingness to give us a mix of different stories. And though I know I will never visit the Sanctuary (and despite other commenters’ insistence, I doubt I know anyone who secretly does), I enjoyed reading about it.

As a single guy actively dating in Denver, I am constantly amazed at the double standard in regard to sex. One thing I have found: Women are a lot more aggressive and sexually active than they like to admit, and they’re very quick to label men and to judge others. Many times I have had women initiate contact with me, via text or verbal conversation, in direct regard to sex. Yet these same women jump right into denial when confronted after making degrading comments toward others who have active sex lives. My take is that women are very jealous of each other and very quick to judge in order to cover up their own actions.
