Robert Carradine has made a career out of being a nerd.

He's best known for his role in 1984's Revenge of the Nerds and its assorted sequels — and he's still mining this territory in the TBS competition series King of the Nerds, which he co-hosts with Curtis Armstrong, best known for his appropriately nerdy role in Risky Business.

But for all the laughs he's generated over the years, Carradine recently dealt with a very serious situation — a Colorado crash in which he and his wife were injured seriously enough to require hospitalization.

He's now been fined for careless driving in connection with the incident.

The damage done in the accident, which took place on Highway 145, described by Fox31  as "a windy, often treacherous patch of road that traverses through the San Juan National Forest in southwest Colorado," was substantial, as can be seen in this photo tweeted afterward by the Durango Herald.

Carradine, driving a 2003 Mercury Marauder, reportedly crashed head-on into a truck.

The truck's driver wasn't seriously injured.

However, Carradine had to be pried from the wreckage.

He and his wife, Edith, were subsequently transported to an area hospital for treatment.

At the time of the crash, King of the Nerds was only days away from its season-three finale.

Prior to the crash, Carradine's Twitter account was dominated by promotional messages about the show, including this one, shared on March 13:

But on that same day, he also addressed the Colorado crash. His tweet reads:

A Colorado State Patrol rep tells the Cortez Journal that neither alcohol nor excessive speed were factors in the accident.

Nonetheless, Carradine was cited in the incident and has now paid a $169.50 fine by mail.

The ticket was worth four points on Carradine's driving record — and undoubtedly also resulted in a scary memory from his most recent visit to Colorado.

Thus far, there's been no word about whether King of the Nerds will be renewed for a fourth season. Here's a video from the show recently shared by Carradine.
