A 53-year-old motorcyclist died in a crash with an automobile near South Sable Boulevard and East Bayaud Avenue in Aurora around 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17 — distressing news that became even more unsettling given a note at the bottom of the news release about the incident from the Aurora Police Department.
It reads: "This will be the City of Aurora's 17th crash fatality this year."
This number struck us as disturbingly high — and information on the AccidentDataCenter.com website documents much of the carnage.
The site is a commercial enterprise, not an official government database — but it lists ten separate fatal incidents from Aurora circa 2015 prior to Tuesday's crash, accounting for at least thirteen casualties. Many of them made little news beyond traffic reports about slowdowns as a result of emergency response.
