Support the independent voice of Denver and help keep the future of Westword free.
The number of homicides that took place in Denver during the first half of 2015 — twenty — is fairly typical.
For example, we cataloged twenty homicides during the first six months of 2012, and 22 in 2013.
But that doesn't make the latest ones any less tragic for the friends, family and loved ones of victims such as Rachel Aboytes, a rapper killed in March. Thus far, there have been no arrests in the case.
Below, find interactive graphics for all twenty of the homicides through the end of June 2015 (if you have problems seeing the images, click "View on Google Maps").
In addition, we've included details about the dates of the incidents and causes of death — the vast majority were gunshot wounds. Also on hand for the vast majority of incidents are links to original Westword coverage, which provides many more details.
One aside: The killing of seventeen-year-old Jessie Hernandez by Denver police officers is noted here. Although the officers were not charged with a crime, the taking of a life is still technically a homicide.
The incidents are arranged chronologically. Continue to learn more about each one.
