Keep Westword Free
We’re aiming to raise $20,000 by April 26. Your support ensures Westword can continue watching out for you and our community. No paywall. Always accessible. Daily online and weekly in print.
The 22nd Annual Uptown Sampler runs tonight from 5-8:30 p.m., and there’s no better way to get a taste of how this neighborhood has finally grown into a real restaurant row. It was 25 years ago that Cliff Young opened his eponymous restaurant at 700 East 17th Avenue, in a space that later became Dante Bichette’s and then Hamburger Mary’s. At the time, remembers Young (who’s soon to open a steakhouse next to the Diamond Cabaret), fine dining on 17th seemed like a major risk.
Not anymore. Tonight you can stroll (or ride the Excursion Bus) from restaurant to restaurant, with stops at historic B&Bs along the way. Uptown on the Hill only sells 400 $20 tickets to this fundraiser for District 8 Senior Events, a 501(c)3; to see if any are still available, click here or call 720-548-8934.
