Preset your ovens and roll out that dough, because Alfalfa's is partnering with Edible Front Range to host the Autumn Pie Contest, a community competition, on Saturday, October 19. And whether you are the Betty Crocker type, a master pastry chef or have never set foot in a kitchen, you can compete.

To enter, register by October 18 at Guest Services at Alfalfa's or online. Then bake up a pie that fits in one of these four categories: Best Apple Pie, Best Pumpkin Pie, Best Gluten-Free Pie and a Wild Card, which allows for just about anything. Ingredients will be taken into consideration, though, and contestants are encouraged to utilize GMO-free and organic ingredients in order to match the standards of Alfalfa's; recipes must be included with the pies.

All pies will be judged by a panel of experts including Lynne Eppal (editor of Edible Front Range), Dana Derichsweiler (owner of the Walnut Cafe), Lenny Martinelli (owner of Three Leaf Concepts), Ashlea Tobeck (pastry chef at Escoffier), John Lehndorff (food writer/editor and executive director of the American Pie Council), and Elisa Bosley (editor of Delicious Living magazine).

From 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, the judges will do their work while pie fans watch -- and enjoy free samples of pie from the Alfalfa's bakery. The winners will be featured in the winter issue of Edible Front Range magazine -- and anyone who enters will get a 10 percent discount when they shop at Alfalfa's through the end of the month.
