For fifty years, the space around the corner from the King Soopers at 3563 South Monaco Parkway was home to Piccolo's, a family-owned Italian and Mexican eatery that shuttered in April 2023.
But it wasn't empty for long. Jeff Schwing, a chef with a background in high-end French cuisine, debuted his first venture, Provolino, in the space last December.
At the time, Schwing was excited to use his skills in a new way to create a low-key, family-friendly Italian joint. "This is my 'What do I have to prove?' menu," he told Westword. "We wanted to make an Italian menu that was very much me, very much Denver, very much what the neighborhood wanted, but is very fresh."
But less than a year later, Provolino has shuttered. "It is with great sadness that I announce Provolino will be closing its doors indefinitely," reads a current Instagram post. "It has been our honor to serve the people of south Denver and [I] hope we will be able to open something else in the future. I want to say thank you to everyone who helped us and supported us up to this point. We have made some amazing friends and I hope we brought some joy to you in our brief time operating."
No word yet on what may be moving into that space.
