While still maintaining its Old West charm, in recent years Golden has evolved into a pretty fun place to eat and drink, too. This year, it's set to become home to new locations of three popular metro area concepts. Wheat Ridge's King of Wings is planning to open its second spot there, and Blue Pan Pizza is putting its third outpost in Golden soon.
But first, Atomic Cowboy is introducing its eighth location (the seventh in Colorado) at 1100 Washington Street in Golden on October 24. The three-in-one concept owned by former CU Buffs football player Drew Shader serves towering breakfast sandwiches during the day as Denver Biscuit Company, as well as large, New York-style slices and whole pies as Fat Sully's. It also offers one of the best cheeseburgers in the metro area. The new Atomic Cowboy has some hot pizza competition in Golden — the thirty-year-old Woody's Wood Fired Pizza, which is located just a couple of blocks away and draws big crowds with its popular pizza buffet and other items, including burgers.
One thing Woody's doesn't serve, though, is breakfast. Denver Biscuit Company has been one of the most popular breakfast and brunch spots in Denver for nearly two decades, so it's got plenty of expertise in that area. Along with favorites like the Franklin, with fried chicken and bacon, DBC is introducing several new biscuit sandwiches to its lineup at the Golden location.
The additions include the King, a biscuit smothered in crunchy peanut butter, banana caramel, whipped cream, brûléed banana and chopped bacon; the Cubano, with pulled pork, ham, Swiss cheese, mojo mayo, pickles and pork cracklins on a garlic butter-griddled biscuit; and the K-Mack, with Korean fried chicken, toasted sesame seeds, sesame mayo, daikon pickles, shredded cabbage and green onions.
There are also some new cocktails on the menu, such as the Breakfast of Champions, a blend of bacon-washed bourbon, maple syrup, Kahlua and aromatic bitters. Atomic Cowboy has added several N/A options as well, including a booze-free prickly pear margarita.
Atomic Cowboy Golden is located at 1100 Washington Avenue and is open from 8 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday. For more information, visit atomiccowboy.net.
