In the past two weeks, our culinary escapades have taken us to two gas stations: first, toPho Bowl
, which recentlyopened in a Conoco
in Denver. Then, this past weekend, we checked outLa Choza
, a taco trailer that's practically attached to a Sinclair on the Diagonal Highway in Boulder.

Ricardo Miramonte is the owner of the one-man operation, a native of Chihuahua who's been slinging tacos, tortas and breakfast burritos from that parking lot every day but Sunday for the past eight years. We zeroed in on the tacos, because Miramonte offers an al pastor rendition, stuffed with smoky, peppery pork and plenty of juicy pineapple.
But the real winner was the barbacoa cheek meat taco: The velvety beef, finished with the char of the grill, was topped with crisp onions and tomatoes; smothering it in Miramonte's racy, homemade jalapeño salsa just made good better.
Our pick for the best tacos in Boulder County probably goes to establishments in Longmont. But it's good knowing that we can get a real fix at a gas station close to town.
