Now the eatery that has been serving some of the best green chile in town for decades is getting ready to say goodbye to the Baker neighborhood. After 34 years, it will serve its last green chile-smothered burritos in this location on December 23. "We all have mixed emotions. We're happy, sad, excited, nervous. We're everything," Vicente notes. But then he adds, "This isn't a goodbye. It's a see you later, see you soon."
As soon as mid-January, which is when the family hopes to open at 7195 Federal Boulevard in Westminster, in a space that had been home to a Señor Burritos before.
But in their comments on the Westword Facebook post of the news, regulars are already mourning the loss to central Denver. Says John:
Oh, no...this is my favorite place to eat. I love those people. I have been going there more than twenty years. Best burritos...Adds Karla:
I can't believe it. I always stop by there for dinner when I go to the Mayan for a movie. I will miss going there. I hate to see family-run places close. So many restaurants that I have gone to for thirty+ years have closed in the last four years.Observes Tim:
Places are dropping like flies around here. This is literally my neighborhood burrito/green chile spot; it's caddy-corner from my building. Now what? I'm starting to think that since so many local businesses have moved on from here, so should I.Responds Katie:
I’m moving from Baker in a couple weeks after almost five years. It has gotten so bad in the last two years. Sad. I really used to love this neighborhood.Says Spencer:
Honestly, that place sucked. Always sad to see a neighborhood staple go, though!Offers Jason:
Love Señor Burritos burritos, been enjoying it for thirty years. I’ll happily drive to Westminster to support them.Suggests Mateo:
There are plenty of other mid Mexican spots, people ...Counters Richard:
I call BS, Señor! We are in a Denver burrito shortage and this won’t help. The best little hot spot over on Santa Fe closed over a year ago with little explanation: The Burrito Company. If only Chipotle and Illegal Pete’s were not allowed to get so Huge, we’d all be safe from this giant burrito mess.Concludes Johnny:
I guess I'll be going on a diet. What do you think of Señor Burritos? What's your go-to Mexican spot in metro Denver? Post a comment or share your thoughts at [email protected].
