Terence Rogers and his wife, Holly Adinoff, opened Sullivan Scrap Kitchen at 1740 East 17th Avenue in 2020. It was a tough time to open a restaurant, and it hasn't gotten much easier. Although Sullivan Scrap Kitchen's zero-waste approach earned it a spot on Bon Appétit's "Heads of the Table" list in 2021, honoring a dozen hot food concepts around the country, and its burger nabbed our Best of Denver award for Best Hamburger that same year, "it's an uphill battle," he told Molly Martin last fall.

That's when Sullivan Scrap Kitchen ended dinner service, while continuing to serve brunch and operate as the commissary kitchen for TBD Foods, the catering business Rogers started in 2018. "We're just tired. We just need to catch our breath and see how things go," he said.

That breathing time gave the couple a chance to think about options. And at the end of today, August 2, brunch will be gone, too, and Sullivan Scrap Kitchen will close. But the two are staying busy: In announcing the impending closure on Instagram, they revealed that they're expecting a baby soon, and they plan to start a “gourmet edible cannabis line” while also continuing to offer catering through TBD Foods.

Balancing out that closing: Leroy's Bagels is opening a second outpost today, August 2, at 1549 Platte Street.

We rounded up all the opening and closing action in July, including the shuttering last Sunday of popular bars Denver City and Cap City Tavern, in our monthly Restaurant Roll Call. Unfortunately, more closings are coming in August: Milk T Boba House will be gone by the end of the month, and the Molecule Effect in Wash Park will close August 16.
