The Best In Show cheese: Spring Brook Farm Cheese/Farms for City Kids Foundation's Tarantaise Reserve.
There's cheese and then there's a room full of over 2,000 small-batch American cheeses, which was what cheese fans found on July 29 at the Festival of Cheese. Makers came from all over the country; they were joined by Colorado's own Haystack Mountain Cheese, Jumpin' Good Goat Dairy, MouCo Cheese Company, Moon Hill Dairy and more.  The festival came on the heels of Cheese With Altitude, a three-day conference held by the Denver-based American Cheese Society. During the event, professional cheesemongers and cheese makers convened at the downtown Sheraton Hotel and voted on the "Best In Show" cheese; the Vermont-based Spring Brook Farm Cheese/Farms for City Kids Foundation's Tarantaise Reserve took that honor. But everyone who got to try that cheese and all the other kinds offered left as winners, too. All photos by Linnea Covington.
