Besides, since Chavez focuses on commercial production for places like Sunflower Market and Vitamin Cottage, she's working through the night. "By the time we close, I've already been here for twelve hours," she jokes.
There are a few seats outside, but with alley views and no tables, Martines is definitely a grab-and-go place. It also only accepts cash and checks. The flavors of scones, cookies, muffins and breakfast burritos change daily; there are always sugar-free and gluten-free options, too. Chavez has a notebook that contains more than 200 flavor combinations she rotates through, including green tea with ginger and apricot with honey and vanilla. She also does the classics, such as red velvet -- though she throws cherries into her batter.
Full-sized muffins are only $1.50 each, and breakfast burritos the size of a Chipotle burrito are just $3. Coffee is also offered. Coming soon: oatmeal and hot chocolate.
