Denver native T.J. Miller might not live in the Mile High City anymore, but he occasionally drops by local clubs.

In September, the embattled comedian paid one such visit to the Lion’s Lair. As local comic and Westword scribe Byron Graham noted in an essay about that Miller appearance: “A year and a half ago, I would have regarded a surprise drop-in from T.J. Miller with pride – a gracious benediction for a humble Colfax open mic from a man who’d reached the pinnacle of success most only hope for in the unforgiving field of comedy.”

But things changed in 2017, after the Daily Beast reported that Miller had been accused of sexually assaulting and punching a woman in college; he denied the charges. Then in April 2018, the comedian was arrested at a New York airport for calling in a false bomb threat. The actor left HBO’s Silicon Valley on shaky terms but still manages to nab acting gigs, including a starring role in the 2019 thriller Underwater.

Miller’s now taking his standup act on the road; he’ll return to Denver for a gig at the Gothic Theatre on August 8. Tickets, $35 to $60, go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, February 15, at axs.com
