You know Colorado Gives Day is drawing near when your emails double, then triple, as nonprofits across the state make their case for contributions on Tuesday, December 9. But the Colorado Gives Foundation, which introduced Colorado Gives Day fifteen years ago, says it best in this morning’s email: “The need is great and the moment is urgent.”

And the time is now.

The Colorado Gives Foundation, which got its start as a Jefferson County-based hospital fundraising group fifty years ago, introduced Colorado Gives Day in 2010, designating the second Tuesday in December as a time to give to nonprofit organizations across the state, and offering a match.

Over the past fifteen years, Colorado Gives has grown into a year-round giving platform that makes it easy for individuals and businesses to support nonprofits, and for nonprofits to raise the funds they need to do their critical work. Since Colorado Gives Day started, Coloradans have raised over half a billion dollars, including $54.8 million in 2024 alone, for more than 4,500 participating nonprofits.

Denver, make your New Year’s Resolution Count!

We’re $13,000 away from reaching our $50,000 year-end fundraising goal. Your support could be what pushes us over the top. If our work has kept you informed and connected this year, please consider making a contribution today.

Accept no substitutes: This is not Giving Tuesday, a national effort on the first Tuesday in December that started a few years after Colorado Gives Day. Even if you opened your wallet last week, your work is not done.

The Colorado Gives Foundation built the ColoradoGives.org platform as a way to make it easy to donate to nonprofits through one spot, free of charge to the nonprofit. And the foundation also offers special bonuses for donations made this day:

  • Every donation made and processed before midnight will be boosted by the $1 Million+ Incentive Fund, amplifying your impact.
  • Donate during one of the Power Hours (7-8 a.m., 10-11 a.m., 3-4 p.m., 7-8 p.m. or 10-11 p.m.) and your favorite nonprofit could win an extra $2,000 prize.

  • Give $100+ to a single nonprofit and be entered to win a roundtrip ticket from Southwest Airlines (one winner each hour, plus a bonus winner after midnight)!

“Together, we can keep Colorado strong,” the foundation continues. “Can we count on you to make an impact today?”

And a reminder: While Westword is in the midst of a end-of-the-year membership campaign (yes, we send emails, too) we’re not a non-profit and this day is not about us. Colorado Gives Day is dedicated to all those charities that do so much to keep our state great. So check Coloradogives.org for your options, and then start giving!
