This may be a short work week, but it’s long on free fun. After you march in this morning’s MLK Marade to celebrate the reason we have the day off, continue the discussion at Black Lives Matter at the McNichols Building. Then it’s on to Night Brunch, movies and other truly cool shit. For more entertainment options, go to the online Westword calendar. And if we missed a great free event, don’t be shy: Tell us about it in the comments section below.

Night Brunch at Hi-dive (Monday, free)
Head to the Hi-dive for Night Brunch, a DJ supergroup comprising Doug Spencer and Hayley Helmericks of Snake Rattle Rattle Snake fame and Lucas Rougé of Cannons. They’ll be spinning pop tunes on wax from the mod days to the modern days.
Will you step up to support Westword this year?
At Westword, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $20,500 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $50,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of Westword, now’s the time to give back.
The Further Reclamation of the Musical or How to Further Stop Worrying and Love the Dance at Alamo Drafthouse (Tuesday, free) The weekly film series that got its start at Cafe Max moves down to the Alamo for the second round of the coolest musicals ever crafted for the big screen. This week catch Brian De Palma’s horror musical Phantom of the Paradise, a cinematic odyssey filled with rock and roll, glam, love and terror. Stick around for a discussion afterward; it should get weird.
Cool Shit: A Comedy Show at 3 Kings Tavern (Thursday, free) It takes balls to call yourself cool shit, but these comics can back it up. Chris Charpentier, Kristin Rand, Matt Monroe and whole crew of other side-splitters will help you get through the short work week and on to the weekend.
