Held each spring and fall by 303 Magazine, Denver Fashion Week features the work of local designers with different themed events and runway looks. In addition to sustainability, the shows at the Brighton this week will include swimwear and resort, adaptive, streetwear and sneakers, maximalism, society, bridal, and youth mommy and me.
But sustainable fashion is where you'll find the freshest looks and concepts, and featured designers HYACINTH, Common Threads, Kingdom Work by Brandi McMichael, Sydney Lenox, Abstraction Studio and Garms 1 of 1 set a high bar.
Corsets seemed to be in across the board (I felt pretty cool for having worn one), and some of my favorite designs from the night came from HYACINTH, which showed off looks that were all glitter, layers and flower-adorned hair for an overall ethereal ren faire aesthetic.
The designs from Common Threads were bold and modern, and Kingdom Work showed off interesting silhouettes and gold accents. The Sydney Lenox wear was sexy and chic, with lace-up skirts and lace corsets. Abstraction's "Pearl of Resistance" line was elegant, featuring pearls and rich velvet. And Garms 1 of 1 was a rhinestone, Y2K-fueled cyber standout with flip phones used as props, phone chargers tied in models' hair and earbuds sewn to shirts.
But the real fashionistas were the people who came to the event. Here are some of the best outfits we saw before the lights were dimmed:
And finally, I was pretty proud of my outfit, which included a bell-sleeved top I crocheted with secondhand yarn from ReCreative a few years ago. I also crocheted my friend's top. The rest of our outfits are from thrift and vintage stores. Sustainable!
