Standup comedian, writer and actor Demetri Martin first caught the national eye in his “Trendspotting” segments, which aired during the heyday of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. A veteran of the New York standup circuit, Martin demonstrated his unique sensibility and facility with droll one-liners early on in his career. Though Martin’s forays into stardom were either short-lived, like the Comedy Central series Important Things With Demetri Martin, or ill-fitting, like his starring role in the disappointing Ang Lee film Taking Woodstock, he never strayed far from standup, regularly touring and releasing specials over the years. He’s also written two best-sellers, This Is a Book and Point Your Face at This. Martin’s act, with its typically absurdist tone and geometrically precise comedic timing, has remained engaging and unpredictable.

Martin will stop at the Paramount Theatre, 1621 Glenarm Place, tonight as part of his twenty-city Persistence of Jokes tour, which will culminate in the taping of a television special on March 7 in Washington, D.C. Denver comedy fans should jump at the chance to catch Martin’s new stuff before the rest of the country. Doors open at 7 p.m. for the 8 p.m. show; tickets are $29.50 to $35.
