Kickball and fundraising don’t sound like natural bed partners, but the local charity kickball league KIFAC, by means of compromise, does both things, thanks to the ingenuity of KIFAC founder Patrick Brown. After first organizing the just-for-fun recreational league eight years ago, Brown asked his teammates if they’d donate to a cause he was working for. “And no one did,” he recalls. “I had the realiza-tion that they were all there to play kickball. That’s what they signed up for. But if we were to charge a few more dollars to register, peo-ple who just want to play could still raise money.”

That’s a philosophy that works for Brown, and in recent years, the league began hosting fundraising parties under the same banner. That includes tonight’s inaugural Flip Flop Ball, which, true to its moniker, requires participants to don semi-formal dress and casual flip-flops while having a really good time. “The theme is the same in everything we’ve done,” Brown says. “First and foremost, the idea is to make a fun event people want to go to...just because it’s fun.” The evening will include cocktails, music, dancing, drawings and more.

The Flip Flop Ball, 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the indoor/outdoor City Hall, 1144 Broadway, costs $25 in advance (or $35 at the door) to at-tend; proceeds benefit the Listen Foundation. Buy tickets and get the goods on the fun at www.kifac.org/flipflopball.html.
