With the 85th Annual Academy Awards going down this Sunday, February 24, you can certainly stay home and catch the Hollywood action from your couch and wallow in Joan Rivers' bitter, pre-show fashion commentary. But while watching the Oscars with Joan and your cat may be fun, discussing the best and worst dressed with a room full of people is even better. Here's a quick list of some of the spots around Denver and Boulder hosting Oscar parties -- some grandiose, some casual -- for your viewing pleasure.

Denver Film Society's Oscar Experience: Glitz/Glam/Give at McNichols Building (5 p.m. doors, starting at $200 a person and $1600 for a table) The fanciest of Denver's Oscar parties also benefits a great cause -- a percentage of the evening's proceeds going to support the Denver Film Society's programming and events. One of only 42 parties sanctioned by the Academy, attendees are given the same official programs given out at the Hollywood ceremonies. Along with cocktails and conversation, guests get to walk the red carpet before dinner, watch the show and and get a chance to win prizes for correct predictions. For tickets, visit the Sie FilmCenter's website.

Academy Awards Party at Dairy Center For The Arts -- Performance Space (5 p.m. doors, $20-$30) A more casual affair, the Dairy Center invites one and all to watch the Oscars tonight -- but by all means, dress to impress if you'd like. A ticket to the theater space's Academy party gets you snacks, popcorn and a glass of champagne. Prizes will be given for good film guesses, and a red carpet will be available for guests to walk down. For tickets to the Boulder shindig, visit The Dairy Center's website.

Caveau/New Genesis Oscar Viewing Night @ Caveau Wine Bar (4 p.m. doors, $50-$90, 21 and up) Another party with good intentions, this third annual viewing event is thrown by Caveau Wine Bar and benefits New Genesis, a local transitional housing organization and support network for homeless adults. Dress up or dress down and enjoy wines donated by Coppola Vineyards and a Godfather-inspired dinner menu, all included in the ticket price. If this happening Academy party in Uptown sounds like your bag, head to Caveau's website soon; tickets for this event go fast.

Update: Due to inclement weather, Caveau and New Genesis will be canceling tonight's Oscar party. The bar will still be open, showing the Oscars and offering wine and snacks at a reduced price.

A make-up event will be scheduled for mid-March, and ticket buyers will be notified of the details. Refunds will also be available tomorrow, February 25, by calling New Genesis: 303-831-4910. Ask for Tami or Page.

Oscar Dinner at Cinema Grill (4 p.m. doors, $5 reserves a seat, dinner additional.) Just $5 gets you a reserved seat at Cinema Grill, where you can enjoy an Oscar viewing and a nice dinner of your choice from the movie-restaurant's menu for under $20. Plus, if you've missed catching some of this year's nominated films, check out the theater's programming during the rest of the week. To reserve a seat, visit Cinema Grill's website.

Oscar Party at Kress Cinema And Lounge (5:30 p.m. doors, $20) This downtown Greeley spot offers appetizers and ballots for its Academy party. Additional food may be ordered off the restaurant's wide, cinema-themed menu and prizes will be handed out for correct award guesses at the end of the night. To purchase tickets, visit the Kress Cinema's website.
