It's New Year's resolution call-to-action time, and the Englewood Recreation Center and Swedish Medical Center have your back. Today kicks off their Fitness Challenge, a free, three-month long commitment to get interested parties moving. From 8 a.m. to noon today, participants can sign up to get a free scan card to keep track of workouts -- just three visits to the rec center each week will get you entered for weekly prizes -- from January 7 to March 25.

"Our goal is for people to cement the habit of exercising three times a week," says program director Rowan Velasquez. Free spine, blood pressure and glucose checks will also be part of the challenge's opening ceremonies, along with a dietitian and physical therapist on hand to answer any additional health-related questions. A pilates class open house will follow at 12:30 p.m., along with refreshments and door prizes.

While tracking your progress in the Fitness Challenge is free, regular rec center fees apply for use of the facilities, 1155 West Oxford Avenue. For $15 to $19, a body composition assessment with a personal trainer can also be done at the opening of the fitness challenge. For more information and Englewood Recreation Center membership rates, call 303-762-2680 or visit www.englewoodrec.org.
