Once home to both O.P. Baur Confectionery Company (in the late 1800s) and Le Grand Bistro & Oyster Bar (in the early 2010s), the building at 1512 Curtis Street has a long history. In spring 2015, the Baur's name got a reboot with Baur's Restaurant and Listening Lounge, a multi-concept restaurant and music venue that hosts a variety of national and internationally known jazz, classical and world acts. On music nights, the vibe runs casual but the food skews high-end, with lobster deviled eggs, pan-fried abalone atop a shimmery shell, and housemade charcuterie. When in doubt over what to order, opt for one of the kitchen’s seasonal dishes, perhaps black cod with pickled chard stems, roasted cauliflower with romesco, or ice cream in innovative flavors such as sweet corn and cherry-goat cheese. Or ask for the all-day “signature” menu with more casual fare.
