The Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division has issued a health and safety notice over mold and yeast concerns for marijuana grown by Medpharm Holdings, LLC, which does business as cultivator Bud & Mary's.

The recall, issued January 28, includes nine different harvest batches and impacts 58 dispensaries across Colorado. According to the MED, the flagged product was sold from February 7 through December 20 of last year.

After testing marijuana from Bud & Mary's, some harvest batches were "found to have exceeded acceptable limits established for total yeast and mold," the MED notice says. According to Bud & Mary's, the recalled product passed initial post-harvest testing, but a test at the retail level identified microbial contamination. Bud & Mary's collaborated with state officials in the recall effort, the MED notes.

"Individuals who possess this affected product should destroy it or return it to the store from which it was purchased for proper disposal. Individuals who experience adverse health effects after consuming the affected product should seek medical attention immediately and report the event to the MED by submitting a MED Reporting Form," the health and safety notice advises.

According to Bud & Mary's group president Lucas Nelson, the company contacted retail partners as it learned of the mold issue and is working to "review and strengthen our processes to prevent future issues."

“At Bud & Mary’s, quality and safety are our top priorities. A recent test at the retail level identified microbial contamination in a batch of our flower. Before release, this batch passed all testing requirements using state-approved third-party labs. On December 27, 2024, more than a month before the advisory went out, we voluntarily contacted all retailers carrying the affected batches, providing guidance on proper destruction in accordance with MED regulations. We are working closely with the MED to review and strengthen our processes to prevent future issues. This includes auditing our procedures, exploring enhanced testing, and investing in new technologies. We remain committed to transparency, compliance, and delivering safe, high-quality cannabis to our customers,” Nelson says in a statement.

This is the second marijuana recall issued by the MED in 2025. Last year, nine marijuana recalls were issued in Colorado, with all but two over mold and yeast concerns.
