If you’re struck at Denver International Airport and feel like hitting the links instead of staring into the fluorescent lights, there’s a new option for you: Golf DEN, an immersive golf simulator in Concourse A.
Now open at the airport, Golf DEN has five simulator bays where passengers can swing real clubs and virtually play at some of the world’s top courses.
“Step into a realm where golfing dreams come to life, and the thrill of the game meets the convenience of travel,” Golf DEN’s website reads. “Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting your golfing journey, we invite you to tee off with us and embark on an unforgettable adventure right here in the heart of the airport.”
According to a guide put together by Golf DEN, airport golf simulators use cameras, sensors and projectors to create a golf experience. Players hit golf balls into a screen while sensors track shot speed, spin and direction to chart where the ball would land if it had been hit on a real course.
Simulators aren’t dependent on weather and are time-efficient, because the minutes spent walking around a real golf course can all be dedicated to taking swings, Golf DEN points out. For true golf heads, simulators offers in-depth analysis of swings and shots that could help improve technique, the website adds.
Fees are listed in fifteen-minute increments, but people can also pay ahead online for convenience. One session is $20, while thirty minutes runs $34, and a full hours costs $65.
Equipment rental is included in the price, but Golf DEN encourages people to bring their own clubs or putters if they're traveling with them. Additionally, comfortable clothes and real shoes that allow for a full swing are encouraged.
Golf DEN is located on the top floor of Concourse A. After passing through security and emerging from the trains (or walking across the bridge), simulator patrons must keep going to the third level. According to the Golf DEN website, the company is working to register with Google and Apple Maps to provide walking directions.
This airport golfing facility has a full bar, too, so people can purchase non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages as they and their fellow travelers swing away. For frequent travelers, Golf DEN will offer leagues to compete against others over the course of five weeks.
