Rape Is a Crime rally at Confluence Park raises flags against victim-blaming (PHOTOS)

Last week, we previewed "I Didn't Ask For It: Rape Is a Crime, Being Raped Is Not," a Saturday gathering at Confluence Park at which the Guerilla Urban Art Force planned to display 150 flags fighting the blame-the-victim mentality. "It was a very powerful and moving day," notes GUAR's Bridget Hill, who helped conceive the art project/consciousness-raising project after the man accused of raping one of her friends was acquitted.

For more details about the event, featuring original works from people from San Diego to London, read this post on the I Didn't Ask For It blog, and check out a slew of stirring photos provided by Hill on view below.

Support the independent voice of Denver and help keep the future of Westword free.

Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism.
