Update: Danielle Lewis, Who Suffers From Seizure Disorder, Returns Home Safely

Update: When Fort Collins Police Services announced late last night that the search for Danielle Lewis, a 21-year-old who had vanished last Thursday (and didn't take her seizure-disorder medication with her), plenty of people may have feared the worst.

Fortunately, the worst didn't come to pass.

Moments ago, the FCPS announced that Lewis has been reunited with her family.

"She has been in the Fort Collins area since last Saturday and today contacted a friend," the release reads in part. "She did not suffer any injuries and is back home with her family."

The situation echoes the disappearance of CU Boulder student Tyler Allen, who also returned safely in late April after several days of intense searching. Allen's family said he was unaware anyone was looking for him.

According to the Fort Collins police, there will be no further investigation into Lewis's case. Continue for our previous coverage.

Original post, 5:53 a.m.: Danielle Lewis, 21, is considered a missing endangered adult.

That's because she suffers from a seizure disorder — and when she left for a bicycle ride Thursday morning, she didn't bring her medication with her.

Lewis hasn't been seen since. And while a jacket that may or may not have been hers has been found, her whereabouts remain unknown — and Fort Collins Police Services has called off the search for her.

The first alert from the FCPS went out on Friday morning. It revealed that Lewis had left her home on the 200 block of Linda Lane in Fort Collins around 11:45 a.m. the previous day on her bicycle. The following photo of a bike like hers was subsequently circulated.



An update Saturday morning contained no new information.

But on Sunday, May 17, the police revealed that a citizen had reported seeing someone who matched Lewis's description; she's five-eight, 130 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes and was last seen wearing blue jeans and a black jacket.

The person in question had been hiding her bike westbound on West Country Road 38E near Horsetooth Reservoir.

The cops added that Lewis may have been carrying a skateboard with her.


Shortly thereafter, the FCPS reported that a family member of Lewis's reported locating a jacket belonging to her at around 4 p.m. in Horsetooth Reservoir Mountain Park.

This find represented a possible breakthrough.

But by 9:37 p.m. last night, authorities were less certain. A police release notes that "the article of clothing believed to be Ms. Lewis's could not be positively identified as hers."

By then, the various searchers — a group that had grown to include members of the Larimer County Sheriff's Office, Larimer County Park Rangers and Larimer County Search and Rescue — couldn't continue their explorations due to darkness.


Moreover, the cops announced that the search wouldn't resume today.

However, the release added, "area law enforcement will continue to be on the lookout for Ms. Lewis."
