The Counter created a big buzz when it opened two years ago in the new Vistas at Park Meadows development. But now it has apparently closed very, very quietly.

Although the restaurant is still listed as a dining option on the Park Meadows website, the Colorado location has been wiped off the Counter's corporate site, which touts the "custom-built burgers" chain, "anti-established in 2003" in California.

The Counter was the first in a wave of burger joints, both local and national, that started cooking in the area over the last two years. Jason Sheehan loved the place, as did numerous meat-lovers in the Southern 'burbs, who appreciated the sushi-menu-style ordering system and the big, big burgers.

One of those fans tipped us off to the closure; Groupon had sent him an e-mail saying Colorado's Counter was closed, and offering a refund. The phone number is still connected, but it sends you to a strange voice-mail message that does not mention the Counter.

We've sent a message to the corporate office; we'll dish details as they come in. In the meantime, don't count on lunch at the Counter today.
