"We want to become a community restaurant in Denver just like we have in Boulder," Musk said at the time. "We couldn't ask for a better location," he added, citing the redevelopment of the 16th Street Mall and Union Station as special incentives for nabbing this particular lease.
The Kitchen Denver won't stray from the flagship, he noted; the redesign of the historic address was to incorporate many of the same urban design elements, and the menu would share the first Kitchen's focus on local sourcing and New American cuisine.
The partners took over the space officially at the end of the year, and quickly got to work realizing their vision. Behind the brown-papered windows, construction is proceeding quickly, and the spot is currently building its team, menu and drinks program.
And now it has an opening date: The Kitchen Denver should open its doors to the public on March 20, serving lunch weekdays and dinner seven days a week; weekend brunch will be added this summer.
In the meantime, Musk and Matheson are offering up weekly chances to win tickets to the March 17 friends and family opening of the Kitchen Denver on the Kitchen Community's Facebook page.
