But Blue Moon was no independent brewery; it's owned by Molson Coors, which announced last August that it would be culling its craft beer portfolio by selling off four out-of-state breweries and closing the A.C. Golden brewery in Golden. While the Blue Moon beer will continue, the brewpub with its name is going dark...but in their comments on the Westword Facebook page, readers say they're not surprised. Says Ryan:
A giant national brewery that makes one beer that caters to boomers? Whatever...Adds Alex:
Their beer selection was horrendous.Replies Todd:
Was it, Blue Moon or Blue Moon or how about a Blue Moon?Offers Craig:
Blue Moon's been irrelevant for over a decade. I'm surprised it lasted this long.Observes Michael:
It's pretty crazy they're doing this. We were there recently before going to a concert. They were packed with a thirty-minute-plus wait for a table on a Thursday night in winter. I will say, the service sucked and maybe they're having a hard time staying staffed? The beers and food were good but it took forever. (Like, it was thirty-plus minutes before we even got a single beer delivered to our table.)Responds Shirlee:
Hmmmm, I wonder why they could possibly have a staffing problem in a restaurant/bar right now.Offers Benjamin:
RiNo is made up, it doesn't exist. I don't feel bad for yuppie transplants failing to gentrify the traditionally industrial part of downtown.Observes Melissa:
Rino seems to have a pretty limited restaurant selection, unfortunately. Things are not doing very well in Denver.Counters Ronnie:
Where, exactly, are "things not doing well"? I am not attempting to start a debate, but legitimately asking. I go out fairly regular throughout downtown, Highland, RiNo, etc., and from what I can tell, things seem to be going pretty well overall. Plenty of busy and thriving establishments.Replies Maggie:
Right? I have to make a reservation anywhere I go unless I want to wait an hour. Bars have lines several people deep....In the '90s the common phrase was, “If a restaurant survives its first year, it’s a success.” People are weirdly acting like the constant closing and opening of restaurants and bars is a new thing.Have you been to Blue Moon? What's your go-to place? What do you think of the current restaurant scene? Post a comment or share your thoughts at [email protected].
