Southern Chain Bojangles Makes Its Colorado Debut in Pueblo

As the Carolina-born brand expands west, there are plans for two Travel Center locations in the state.

In recent years, more and more regional fast-food chains have expanded to Colorado. In 2020, In-N-Out drew huge lines when the California-based chain opened its first locations in the state. Southern brand Chicken Salad Chick added its first metro location at Aspen Grove last September; the following month, we reported that Chicago chain Portillo's is eyeing Littleton for its Colorado debut.

But another out-of-state favorite just beat Portillo's to the Colorado market. Carolina-born fast-food favorite Bojangles, known for its fried chicken and biscuits, has come west for the first time. Entrepreneur Lissette Amiel and franchisee LVP Restaurant Group have a twenty-location unit deal to open stores around Las Vegas, as well as ten TravelCenters of America locations across the West," Bojangles confirmed in January. Two of those were slated for Colorado, and the first just opened yesterday, July 8, at the TA center at 1275 Drew Dix Parkway in Pueblo — where it joined a Black Bear Diner and one of the Del Taco spots returning to Colorado.

A second is expected to open in the Denver area in the next year or so.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to bring Bojangles to the Pueblo community and introduce our bold Southern flavors to both local community members, visitors and travelers,” says Amiel in an announcment. “We’re proud to serve our delicious chicken, biscuits and tea in this convenient location, and we look forward to creating new jobs and becoming a valued part of the area.”

Bojangles was founded in 1977 in Charlotte, North Carolina, and now has over 800 company-owned and franchised restaurants in seventeen states. According to a February 2024 announcement, the company plans to open "more than 200 restaurants over the next several years. As the brand continues to accelerate its nationwide growth, it is placing an emphasis on non-traditional development in venues such as airports, travel centers, sports stadiums and college campuses."

At this time, there are no plans for a traditional, standalone Bojangles in Colorado. But we can dream...
