When Gil Asakawa did a quick Yelp search for "Denver sushi," he found 240 listings ranging from fancy steakhouses to Chinese restaurants to even Walgreen's. With so much sushi available, how do you choose what's good? What's legit? What's fake?

No need to be a sushi tourist. Even in landlocked Denver, there are sushi bars and Japanese restaurants where you can get the real thing, and Gil recently served up his ten favorite spots for sushi in metro Denver.

That inspired plenty of responses on the Westword Facebook post of the list, from readers agreeing with our choices or pointing out that there are many more fish in the sea. Says Joe:
This is a real public service! I've gotten supermarket sushi better than some of the sushi served at expansive restaurants. This will save me a lot of money...and disappointment.
Notes John:
We are a thousand miles from saltwater. That is all.
Counters Sal:
Denver is swimming in sushi restaurants, good and bad. Thanks for this list, Gil.
Says Josh:
Tokio is so very awesome. So happy to see it on the list. Japon was an OG sushi place and I miss the $2.50 happy hour handrolls.
Adds Jan:
Love that Tai Tai was mentioned. Best in South Denver. Wayne is awesome.
Responds Oliver:
As a long-time employee of sushi restaurants, yes, Tai Tai Japanese Hawaiian is top-notch. Leezakaya off Havana in Aurora is solid with happy-hour prices all day on Tuesday throughThursday.
Agrees Laura:
Tasuki is a gem.
Says Summer:
Just verifying you had Sushi Den on the list. It's one of the best in the country.
Offers Jonathan:
Temaki Den is better than Sushi Den.
Adds Ellen:
Disappointed Wellness Sushi wasn't included. It's been voted one of the top 10 vegan sushi restaurants in the entire country.
And Kay concludes:
"Denver" doesn't include Boulder, Westminster or Niwot. Come on.
For the record, when we compile our lists of recommendations for places to go in Denver  — as well as our annual Best of Denver edition — we consider the entire Denver metro area (which happens to coincide with Westword's circ map), from Aurora to Castle Rock to Evergreen to, yes, Boulder. Wouldn't you drive a half hour for a great meal?
