If you're a woman in Boulder who likes to enjoy the great outdoors, you can't be reassured by the latest release from the Boulder Police department.
Shortly after news broke about an attack on a hiker on the Foothills Trail, we're learning about an earlier incident on the Boulder Creek Path by a man said to resemble the composite sketch seen here.
Boulder Police Sergeant Thomas Edward Trujillo stresses that the first case, which led to the arrest of Michael Gonzales-Davis, is unrelated to the Boulder Creek Path incident. He adds that they're "two totally different areas of town. The Foothills Trail is northwest of the city, and the Boulder Creek Path runs right through the center of town."
There are other similarities, however. Gonzales-Davis reportedly invaded a woman's personal space while she was talking on a cell phone after finishing a hike, then grabbed at her shorts, prompting her to punch him several times in the face.
As for the latest case, Trujillo says, "The victim was jogging on the path, and the man grabbed one of her arms and reached for the other one. She started screaming and was able to break away."
The woman was not physically injured, Trujillo adds, and the man didn't attempt to follow her as she ran. He's described as Asian in his mid-thirties to early forties, between five-feet-ten and five-feet-eleven inches tall, and approximately 170-180 pounds. He wore "business-casual" attire: a long-sleeved blue button-down shirt and khaki slacks.
Information can be passed along to the Boulder Police detective tip line, 303-441-1974, or Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers, 1-800-222-8477 or 1-800-444-3776.
In the meantime, hike and jog carefully.
