Cherry Creek North has never been a great spot for live music. There have been noble attempts, like Vartan Jazz, but that left the neighborhood in 1997. And now Q Worldly Barbeque and Lounge, the restaurant/bar at 2817 East Third Avenue that brought in live blues and jazz acts four nights a week, has been silenced.
After a two-and-a-half-year run, the Q closed its doors on November 7. Bekah Donovan Pellegrin, who owned the spot with her husband, David, chalks up the closing to the lousy economy and construction in Cherry Creek over the summer. Since the pair, who also own the nearby Eco-Burger, still have two more years left on the lease, there's a remote chance they'll reopen as the Q — but right now they're weighing their options, talking to customers and seeing what makes sense financially.
In the meantime, if you're looking for music in the Creek, try Elway's (2500 East First Avenue), which hosts blues and rock singer/pianist Jennifer Lane on Fridays and Saturdays, and a pianist during the week.
Club scout: After several delays, Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill has finally opened at 8260 Northfield Boulevard, Suite 1370 in Northfield/Stapleton. The massive 22,000-square-foot bar/restaurant, named after Keith's hit country single "I Love This Bar" and headed by Charly Barnett, who was general manager at the Grizzly Rose for thirteen years, sports an 85-foot-long guitar-shaped bar, a ton of Keith memorabilia, a dance floor, beer in Mason jars and live music five nights a week. Nashville-based country singer Bobby Cutshaw will play Thursday, November 18, through Saturday, November 20; the following week, Las Vegas-based country act Marshal Reign will do a five-night stand starting Tuesday, November 23.
Frank Bonanno's underground cocktail joint, Green Russell, just opened in the former home of Below Bar at 1422 Larimer Street. The spot, which will be open Thursday through Sunday from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., will be serving speakeasy-style cocktails and late-night bites.
Impact, the Friday night dedicated to dubstep, has moved from Milk into bigger digs at City Hall (1144 Broadway). San Francisco-based Salva headlines this Friday, November 19, with openers Samples, Citrus vs. Noah Deep, Drop Logik and more.
