A Denver Police Department tweet about the incident went out at 2:31 a.m. on Sunday, February 8. It reads:#Headsup: Auto vs Pedestrian Hit & Run accident at Colfax & Fox. 1 party transported w/ SBI. No road closures at this time. #DPD

The DPD followed less than twenty minutes later with this grim update:
UPDATE: Auto/Pedestrian hit/ run accident on Colfax and Fox has been declared a fatality. Cont....

By 3:36 a.m., the DPD had put out an alert for a specific vehicle, complete with license plate number:
UPDATE:#DPD is looking for a Black Dodge Journey (244GQU) with front end damage involved in the Hit/Run auto/Ped accident at Colfax & Fox.

We don't know at this point if a witness saw the crash and recorded the license plate number of the vehicle that fled the scene or if surveillance footage in the area caught a glimpse of the ride in question. However, the results were made clear by this tweet, from 8:14 a.m.:
UPDATE: Vehicle in Hit/Run accident at Colfax & Fox has been recovered and driver is in custody, identified as 30yo Brenda Rosales-Montoya.

At this writing, the department has not released a booking photo for Rosales-Montoya, and neither has the victim been identified, pending next-of-kin notification.
