After a few delays, the result of what co-owner Stoney Jesseph calls "usual pushbacks," Stoney's Bar and Grill opened yesterday in the old Andrew's on Lincoln spot. The large space holds close to eighty tables -- flanked by benches, bar stools and regular chairs -- along with a ski lift chair, a basketball hoop with a sweet, life-size scoreboard, and an actual pond surrounded by mini camping equipment replicas. Jesseph says he expects a small-scale mountain that produces real ice and keeps beer extra, extra cold to arrive from Coors within the next week. (What?!)
The environment isn't just featured in decor: Jesseph and Trautman, who own the new spot along with partners Nate Wright and Dina and Jeff Bremer-Castillo, emphasize Stoney's commitment to sustainability through efforts like recycling and composting.
The room, which also boasts two bars, kept the sizable stage (sustainability) Andrews had put in just a year ago; live music will be a regular part of the scenery at Stoney's. The bar has seventeen beers on draft, the majority of them Colorado brews.
And this is all aside from the menu, an inventive selection of appetizers, sliders and salads and sides from chef Darryl Sheakley. It's a step up from typical pub grub, with a solid salute to game. Colorado lamb, buffalo and elk appear on the slider menu alongside such comfort-food standbys as meatloaf and chicken-fried steak. Other notable features: quinoa salad, truffle parmesan fries, avocado fried in 90 Shilling beer, bacon-wrapped mini beer dogs and fourteen different dipping sauces, from chipotle ketchup to cucumber wasabi aioli to mint jalapeño chimichurri. One even includes ghost pepper.
The most expensive thing on the menu, the ahi tuna, is just $12, $11 as an appetizer. Most items hover in the $7 to $10 range. Daily happy-hour specials from 4 to 7 p.m. feature two-for-one 23-ounce drafts, premium wells and Colorado margaritas and wines; late-night happy hour from 10 p.m. to midnight features $3 Coors and New Belgium beers.
For the bar and grill's grand opening, slated for September 3 through September 5, the happy hour specials will apply all day.
Stoney's is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m., Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. For more information, call 303-830-6839.
