The 100-foot launch tower erected in Civic Center Park for the Denver Big Air competition will see its first official action today at 5 p.m. (doors open at 3:30 p.m.) for the Nature Valley Ski Big Air challenge, a Battle of the Brands format that will pit the ski teams from Icelantic, Line Skis, Head, Marker-Volkl, Armada, Rookie Team Rev Tour, Colorado All-Stars, Full Tilt Boots, K2, 4FRNT Skis, Nordica, Moment Skis, Technica Blizzard, Faction Skis and Scott against each other on the massive ramp, followed by an 8:30 p.m. Switchfoot concert.

The snowboard action starts tomorrow, same time, with the LG FIS Snowboard Big Air presented by Sprint, an FIS World Cup event featuring 28 riders representing Australia, Austria, Canada, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Switzerland and the United States. The Colorado contingent includes Bret Esser (Breckenridge), Broc Waring (Vail) and Jake LaRue (Lord). One Republic will play at 7:40 p.m., between the qualification jumps and Finals.

Tickets are $45 per event or $80 for a two-day pass, with a VIP option (including premium viewing and food & beverage) for $100 per event.

Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism.
