While waiting, and waiting, for a table at Highland Tavern on Saturday, we strolled around the neighborhood, looking at all the projects under way in this section of LoHi. When Highland Tavern opened here seven years ago, it was a pioneer in an area where the Arabian Bar was still a down-and-dirty dive; last year it was transformed into The Classic, a Little Pub watering hole. A block away, the building that held Pagliacci's for five decades has disappeared, leaving a giant hole. And down the street at 3358 Mariposa Street, the former Rockstar Bar is completing its transformation into an Irish saloon, courtesy the crew behind Katie Mullen's.

When that construction project started last January, managers predicted that a new Irish bar would open there within two months -- perhaps by St. Patrick's Day? Now it looks like the work could finally be coming to a close. In time for Guinness here on March 17?
