Move over New York City, Chicago and Miami — it turns out Denver is cooler than them all.
Denver was named the sixth coolest city in the United States in a new ranking from Betway. The online gambling company analyzed the fifty most populated cities in North America based on "key factors associated with being cool."
What makes a city cool? Apparently, vegan restaurants, record stores and tattoo parlors, among other factors.
Boston earned the number one spot on the list, followed by Las Vegas, Portland, San Francisco and Seattle from second to fifth place. Rounding out the top ten after sixth-place Denver are Nashville, Washington D.C., Detroit and Los Angeles.
"What makes a city cool often goes beyond its reputation or famous landmarks – it’s the unique blend of culture that provides the energy," the analysis concludes. "Denver fosters a creative and self-expressive atmosphere...combining a youthful energy with a thriving music scene."
All of the top ten coolest cities boast young populations, with median ages ranging from 32.4 years old in Boston to 38.3 in San Francisco. Denver has the fourth-youngest population among the top ten, with a median age of 34.6.
Denver falls in the middle of the pack for its vegan restaurants and record stores. The city has 64.1 vegan restaurants and 2.7 record stores per 100,000 people, landing in seventh place and fifth place, respectively. It fares worse for public street murals and "hidden gem" bars, ranking tenth and ninth.
However, the Mile High City's tattoo and music scenes bring up its coolness. Denver has the third most tattoo shops with 8.1 per 100,000 people, and the fourth most upcoming music events, with 157.1 per 100,000 people.
But the list did rank Boston as the coolest city in the country, so take the results with a grain of salt...
