Like many artists, particularly collagists, of his generation, Zoots first relied on found and "stolen" materials. But more recently, and in New Gothic, he's using more self-generated materials -- photographs and other artwork -- in an effort to create something unlike anyone else's work. "I started seeing other collage artists who were using the same magazines I was," he says, "and I started to feel unoriginal."
See the newer collages, in person and on the wall, at a reception tonight from 6 to 10 p.m. at Super Ordinary, 3126 Larimer Street, or see the show by appointment through April 6. For information, go to www.wearesuperordinary.com or call 303-404-1805.
