As you've probably heard, MediaNews Group head and de facto Denver Post owner Dean Singleton is hoping to save $20 million in wages by tinkering with a union agreement not due to expire until March 2010. At least you did if you read our December 15 blog "Denver Newspaper Guild Almost Mum on Renegotiating Denver Post and Denver Newspaper Agency Contract" or a piece in the Rocky Mountain News: To date, I've found nothing on the Post's website on this topic. In the meantime, there's a way you, the loyal newspaper supporter, can help boost Singleton's enterprise: Overpay for Obama's Mile High Moment, a picture book commemorating this year's Democratic National Convention. A half-page ad in the Post's Denver & the West section today lists the book at "$15.95 plus shipping and handlling." But the same offering is available on Amazon for $10.85 plus shipping and handling. So where does that extra five dollars go? Presumably to help prop up a struggling industry in its hour of need. Although there's no guarantee of that. -- Michael Roberts
