No. 13: Limoncello Wings at Racca's Pizzeria Napoletana
Although this nine-year-old Italian joint, owned by Mark and Kristy Dym, earned our Best Pizza award last year, the menu has so much more to offer than just a tasty Neapolitan pie. Take the limoncello chicken wings, an appetizer of great potential for luring you back to the Ballpark neighborhood for repeat visits, even if you aren't craving pizza.

The limoncello part of this dish isn't just some gimmick; it's a classic Italian spirit made in-house by infusing vodka with lemons for sixty days and then sweetening the result with simple syrup. To impart limoncello flavor to the wings, Mark Dym marinates the chicken for two days in fresh lemon juice, olive oil and herbs. Then the wings get roasted in the restaurant's wood-fired oven after being doused with a splash of limoncello wing sauce. The result is juicy comfort food with a sharp lemon bite and fresh herbal kick, making them mouthwatering and extra succulent.

Of course, these wings prove nothing like their Buffalo-influenced brethren, and they make a lovely addition to the menu of Italian classics and bubbling pies. Order a plate of six for $10 or a large, family-feeding platter of twelve for $18, and enjoy the poultry side of this pizza joint. Racca's (which used to be called Marco's Coal-Fired Pizza until the Dyms changed the name in late 2015) also makes chicken breasts treated with a limoncello bath served atop a salad or in the Caputo sandwich.
