A memorial for a beloved chef, beer events and more on the calendar this week

The restaurant community will come together on Tuesday, February 5, when Vesta Dipping Grill, 1822 Blake Street, will be closed all day in honor of Curtis Caldwell, the sous chef at Vesta who passed away last week. There will be a memorial service held for him at its sister restaurant, Ace, at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Frasca Food & Wine, 1738 Pearl Street in Boulder, is showcasing Italian wines from the Dalla Terra portfolio at its Monday night wine dinner; call 303-442-6966 for reservations.

Tuesday, February 5:

Ace, 501 East 17th Avenue, is celebrating the life of Curtis Caldwell, the sous chef at Vesta Dipping Grill who passed away recently. The service begins at 10 a.m.; call 303-800-7705 for more information. In Caldwell's honor, Vesta owner Josh Wolkon asks those who attend to "please wear a quirky T-shirt that speaks to your personality, interests, beliefs or life."

Wednesday, February 6:

Lucky Pie Pizza & Taphouse, 1610 16th Street, is tapping a select beer from California's Stone Brewing Co. today at 4 p.m. for its weekly Wednesday Showcase. Call the restaurant at 303-825-1021 for details.

The Garlic Knot is hosting a grand opening celebration at its new location in the Mission Trace Shopping Center at 3200 South Wadsworth Boulevard in Lakewood. The pizza and pasta chain will be offering free samples from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., as well as other giveaways -- including free pizza for a year. Call 303-980-5668 for more information.

Thursday, February 7:

The second annual Small Plates Big Hearts takes place tonight at Infinity Park Event Center, 4400 East Kentucky Avenue in Glendale. The benefit features tastings from local restaurants and breweries, and live entertainment from 6 to 9 p.m.; proceeds will go towards the Adoption Exchange. Wynkoop Brewing Co., 1634 18th Street, presents a special Mardi Gras dinner paired with beer and rum at 6:30 p.m. tonight. View the five-course menu here, and call 303-297-2700 to reserve a seat; which costs $45.

Friday, February 8:

The weekly wine tasting takes place from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Marczyk Fine Foods, 770 East 17th Avenue. The event is free and includes cheese pairings; call 303-894-9499 for more information.

Saturday, February 9:

American football may be over for the year, but fans of soccer can still get their fix every Saturday at EDGE Restaurant & Bar, 1111 14th Street, when the restaurant offers a special, English-style breakfast during the game; call 303-389-3343 for reservations.
