When Len & Bill's went dark after fifty years, Denver lost one of its great dives. But now Mike's Tavern has opened in the space at 2301 South Broadway.

Bartender Nicole Keeney, whose father is Mike, says Len & Bill's regulars have been coming in and telling her stories about the old days -- and recalling how dingy the place used to be.

The Keeneys have done a major overhaul of the space, cleaning it up and painting the walls white, which makes the bar much brighter.

Nicole says they might set up a Len & Bill's memorabilia displays on one of those freshly painted walls, to remind customers of the place's past.

In the meantime, looking to the future, they've opened a small patio in the back.
