Jessica Lea Mayfield, whose music has been featured on such shows as Gossip Girl and CSI:NY, has been turning heads with both her haunting voice, which hovers like a vulture circling a dying calf in a dimly lit, frost-covered field, and her own unique brand of "ghost country." Discovered by the Black Keys' Dan Auerbach, the nineteen-year-old Ohio native blends the style and tone of Mazzy Star's Hope Sandoval with the roots and range of classic country crooners like Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline. What separates Mayfield from the voices of yesteryear, though, is the isolation and desperation that resonates in her music, making you wonder how much worse it will be when she's old enough to drink legally.
