Case in point: Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers casually bet Denver nurse Todd Sutton a year's salary that his pal, Milwaukee Brewers slugger Ryan Braun, never used performance-enhancing drugs -- which Braun has just admitted to doing.
Now, amid paying-up questions, Rodgers's tweet has spawned its own Twitter hashtag: #AaronRodgersBets.
Here's how it all went down, according to 7News.
At the end of the 2011 season, Braun, a Major League Baseball MVP, tested positive for elevated testosterone levels and was suspended. But he appealed the ruling and won in February 2012, at which point Rodgers tweeted, "When its guilty until proven innocent, all u need are the facts. #howsthecrowmlb #exonerated"He followed up with this: "I'll let my buddy take it from here. All u idiots talking about technicality open up for some crow too. See if Espn gets pressured not to..."
Sutton responded with a tweet of his own -- and surprisingly, Rodgers answered it directly. Here's a screen capture of that exchange.
Cut to a few days ago, when Braun admitted to PED use, more or less, and accepted his suspension for the remainder of the season -- at which point someone with a very long memory remembered the Rodgers-Sutton exchange. Thus far, Rodgers hasn't commented on the bet, but Sutton has, plenty. In addition to chatting with 7News, he's made appearances on sports programs across the country, as documented on his Twitter account.
Shared on the page are tweets from Mike Greenberg, of ESPN's Mike & Mike in the Morning (he defends Rodgers's tweet), comic turned host Jay Mohr and SportsNation's Marcellus Wiley, to whom Sutton promises a helicopter ride the next time he's in Denver.Still, the funniest development is probably the SportsNation-promoted hash tag #AaronRodgersBets, in which tweeters offer other impolitic wagers guaranteed to blow up in their faces someday soon...like these:
Gisele will leave Tom for Tebow shortly after he wins the starting job this season. I'd put my salary next year on it. #AaronRodgersBets

As for Sutton, he's not seriously expecting Rodgers to send him a check with lots of zeroes to the left of the decimal point. "It's not about the money for me," he tells 7News. "I'm not pestering him trying to get money from him, I just think this is funny."
It's probably amusing to Rodgers, too. But Ryan Braun? Probably not so much.
