Black Moon burst onto the hip-hop scene in the early '90s, just as the hip-pop of MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice was vanishing and Snoop and Dr. Dre were bringing the West Coast rap scene back to prominence. The act carried East Coast hip-hop on its back and introduced a Brooklyn sound -- driven by the dark and grimy rhythms of Da Beatminerz -- that many would try to emulate in the years that followed. Moon, who helped make backpacks, Timberland boots and hooded sweatshirts staples in hip-hop fashion, later joined forces with Smif N Wessun, Heltah Skeltah and Originoo Gunn Clappaz to form the collective known as the Boot Camp Clik. Each of the above has released projects of its own under the Duck Down Records imprint for more than a decade, but now the reconnected Boot Camp Clik is gearing up to release its third album, The Last Stand, which drops this month, followed by a nationwide tour. With so many classics under their belts, the members of this Clik are sure to put on a show you don't want to miss.
