Aurora Police Department press release:

DATE: June 4, 2009

NATURE: Fight/Disorderly Conduct

CASE NUMBER: 2009.23071

At approximately 12:30 p.m. today, School Resource Officers (SROs) assigned to Overland High School observed several groups of high-school-age people gathering near the school.

They contacted one group at the 7/11 located at 2220 South Peoria Street and broke up a fight that started there. Shortly afterward, two more fights broke out nearby.

Numerous police officers responded to the area. Officers estimate that 50 to 60 people were involved in the disturbances, and a few hundred more gathered in the area to observe. Five people were arrested on various misdemeanor charges.

Two of those arrested were Overland High School students who are juveniles. They each were issued a summons for Assault and Battery, and released to their parents.

Three adults who were arrested are not Overland students. They have been identified as:

Elhoweris, Amin, DOB: 04.23.1988 - held on an Arrest Warrant for Marijuana Distribution and False Identification to City Personnel.

Jackson, Brandon Dwyon, DOB: 04.02.1986 - Arrested on warrant for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, $5000 bond.

The SROs will step up police presence at the school on Friday and as necessary next week.
