“We believe Edgewater Public Market stands as one of the best market halls in Colorado,” says Tucker Manion, CEO of CentrePoint Properties, in the announcement that his Denver-based company has acquired the five-year-old dining destination located at 5505 West 20th Avenue, just west of Sloan's Lake.

The market hall was founded by LCP Development, a company specializing in urban infill, mostly within Denver city limits. The building that is now the main market hall was once a King Soopers; it had been vacant for more than twenty years and owned by the City of Edgewater since 2004.

After more than two years of planning and construction, Edgewater Public Market made its debut in November 2019. Two years ago, it was our Best of Denver pick for Best Food Hall. "The convenient and easy layout allows patrons to grab a Belgian-style beer at Barquentine Brewing Co. or a cocktail at Roger's Liquid Oasis (which offers all-day happy hour on Mondays) before deciding which food stall to hit," we wrote. "From tacos and empanadas to Ethiopian and Greek fare, the market hosts an appealing assortment, including its newest addition, Black Box Bakery, which offers truly out-of-this-world pastries. Beyond the eats, you can check other to-dos off your list, too, like getting a haircut at True Grit Grooming or a new tattoo at Ink Den."

Today, Edgewater Public Market is home to sixteen food and beverage businesses plus a cocktail bar, a brewery, and seventeen retail and experience-based businesses, most of which are locally owned. The property also includes three standalone buildings occupied by Shake Shack, Syrup, four fitness businesses and Veterinary Emergency Group, which is next door to the most recent addition, the second outpost of Adelitas Cocina y Cantina.

“The LCP team has done a tremendous job with the redevelopment, creating a vibrant and inviting space for the community," Manion notes. “We love the unique nature of the market hall. Edgewater Public Market is the centerpiece shopping and dining destination in one of Denver metro’s best neighborhoods. It’s already a success, and our vision is to take the center to the next level" — though there are no plans for any immediate changes.

“The community of Edgewater and our surrounding Denver neighborhoods have really embraced this market hall as a focal point of their lives,” adds Gisela Mediavilla, general manager of Edgewater Public Market. “We’ve got a lot of regulars, and a lot of small-business owners doing really interesting things here.”

Those owners include the team behind Black Box Bakery, which is known for producing eye-catching pastries such as its viral cube croissant, and one of the best vegan concepts in the metro area, Gladys. With any luck, the market's new owners will continue to give local businesses a place to shine.
