The Five Best Fashion Events in Denver in Early May

May is almost here, bringing with it many reasons to dress up: On Saturday, you can don your Kentucky Derby hat; on Tuesday, your Cinco de Mayo skirt; and you'll definitely want to look your best on Mother's Day. But style isn't limited to holidays; from fashion flicks to fashion shows, there are plenty of noteworthy events this month. Here are five of our favorites for the first part of May:

1) Dior and I 
Friday, May 1 through Thursday, May 7
Chez Artiste 
2800 South Colorado Boulevard

This fashion documentary by Frederic Tcheng was filmed in 2012, when designer Raf Simons was appointed to be the creative director of Christian Dior. Dior and I follows the eight weeks leading up to Simons' debut haute couture collection for Dior, and how he collaborated with the couture-creating company to create a masterpiece collection, evoking the spirit of the original house of Dior. 2) Denver Fashion Week Night #3
7 to 11 p.m Saturday, May 2
City Hall Event Center
1144 Broadway

The third night of 303 Magazine's Spring 2015 Denver Fashion Week  will focus on Scotch & Soda, the Amsterdam-based fashion brand that has a store in Cherry Creek. 3) Denver Fashion Week Night #4
7 to 11 p.m. Sunday, May 3
City Hall Event Center

The final night of 303 Magazine's Spring 2015 Denver Fashion Week is centered on a grand hair show divided into two segments. The first will feature hairstyles by J Audrey, Swank, Three Cutters on Pearl, Antoine Du Chez, Toni & Guy and The Look. The second will showcase hairstyles from Starling, G3 Salon, Ted's Hair Studio, Phoebe Terese, El Salon, Halo, Mode, and Charlie Price and the Beauty Underground Artistic Team. 4) Transformation Fashion Show 
5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7
First Baptist Church
1373 Grant Street
This transformation-themed fashion show and silent auction will benefit Mission Wear, a local non-profit sewing business started in 2006 by Beth Massey. Mission Wear helps women with obstacles find employment creating reusable products like laptop bags, totes and messenger bags —  of which are made from up-cycled materials like marketing banners, T-shirts, burlap coffee bags, fabrics from interior designers and re-purposed bike tires. 5) Empowering Women Through Fashion and Beauty
12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 9
Hotel Monaco Denver
1717 Champa Street

Denver-based designer Salwa Owens will host this event in the lobby of the Hotel Monaco. Women (and men) are invited to join Owens for a glamorous day full of fashion shows, sweets, cocktails, live musical entertainment; there will also be beauty services to help ladies feel extra spoiled and empowered just in time for Mother’s Day. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Ohio Health Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Group. A fashion show starting at 1 p.m. will feature collections by Owens, a performance by American Idol contestant Devan Blake, and music from violinist Mia Herlinger. Guests will also have the opportunity to shop a trunk show featuring Owens's new Signature Resort Collection, along with clothing and accessories from her online boutique, including Mother’s Day specials.
